Nike Dunk Low Setsubun Brown

Compared to the first half of last year, Nike has been quite busy since the start of 2022. From Chinese New Year to Air Max Day, the brand can't keep up with every release they've started. One of these pairs, the "Setsubun" Dunk Low, was unfortunately lost in the crowd as it missed the festival of the same name by over an entire month. However, that still hasn't stopped the colorway from debuting, as new official images suggest it will be releasing soon. Setsubun, which means "Temporary Division", is a festival held in early February. Designated by the Japanese Lunar Calendar, the celebration takes place one day before the beginning of spring. Although it is not a national holiday, many still participate in rituals that ward off evil spirits. Often called the "Bean Tossing Festival", Setsubun is best commemorated in the imagery added to the shoe. On the back of the heel, for example, Tsuno Daishi, the Horned Grandmaster, is embroidered in purple thread, with Swooshes replacing his horns. The appearance of the figure, although it appears threatening, actually protects against evil and disease. Elsewhere, the graphic on the insole borrows from the work of Edo period artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, its vibrant colors displaying folk hero Kintarō in action. As for the construction, the upper mixes suede with cracked and textured leathers, dressing many of them in a tone reminiscent of roasted soy beans. The Swoosh, as well as the lining, is a vibrant shade of purple, matching Tsuno Daishi's aforementioned look.
